Movie Review: Stranger with a camera.
I found Stranger with a camera a pretty sad movie. I thought that it was interesting how social status brings out how people see their community. Higher classes see lower classes as sad, poor people who are without standards and education. It was unfortunate that Hugh O’Connor was murdered because of his interest in showing the world how bad the coal miners are treated.
Movie Review: The true meaning of pictures.
This movie I found even more interesting then the first movie. Shelby Lee Adams is a person who not only grew up in Appalachia; he found it his calling to photograph the people there. He accepted the people for who they were, and they trusted and respected him also. People in higher classes then the people he was photographing felt that he was taking advantage of the lower class people for his own gain. The higher class people also felt that he was “setting up” the people to look poor in the photographs. The most interesting part was that the family he photographed the most actually loved the photographs. He also wouldn’t publish a photograph without the families blessing.
